OBX | Outer Banks | Heaven in earth… call it as you wish… all the same!
We went on our OBX adventures for the first time 4 weeks ago. This blog took me a little longer than anticipated… in the middle of it, guess what?
We got to go back to celebrate my husband’s birthday AND for an awesome senior session you’ll be seeing in my blog soon 🙂
Let me start by saying I had no big expectations from the OBX. I’m an island girl, I grew up by the beach.
I’ve been so blessed to have seen some gorgeous beaches in my life so I really didn’t have much expectations from it at all.
This was just something else… OBX is not just a place, it’s a lifestyle, the slower pace, the peaceful quiet mornings, salty air, the memories made, the amazingly sweet and nice people we encountered during our short stay there. I’m not lying when I say some of the nicest people I’ve come across call the OBX home <3
I have to say, this was the first time we took vacations or a mini vacation at that without a big printed schedule of things to do, hours, etc… It felt GOOOOOD!!!!!
I have to thank Amanda Hedgepeth so much for the wonderful reviews she wrote on her blog here and here about the things she loves the most in the OBX.
They helped so much!!!!
Now you guys, grab a cup of coffee, tea, water, wine, whichever you prefer and sit back, enjoy your trip through our OBX adventures.
Check all the way at the bottom of this blog for recommendations on things we tried and places to eat… Mangia! Mangia!
We LOVE trying new places to eat!
One of my absolute favorite spots in the Outer Banks!
Instagram feeds!
Food places we tried and liked:
Mama Kwan’s– This was the very first place we stopped by to eat as soon as we arrived. I had the fish tacos, blackened. They were delicious and crispy, I really enjoyed them.
Jolly Rogers– This place was really neat. Food was good. Long wait so go early and do not wait till you are hungry.
Miller’s Waterfront Restaurant– Had dinner here one of the nights. When we arrived the wait was about 35 so we got a buzzer and headed to the back porch by the water, life music and drinks were available with the most gorgeous sunset while waiting. The buzzer went off maybe 10 minutes in so that was a big pleasant surprise. The food was to die for! The best hush puppies I’ve ever had. It was busy but we were really well taken care of. Apparently there are two restaurants called Miller’s. We got a little confused at first when looking for reviews but I’m linking the one we went to.
Mulligan’s Raw Bar & Grill- First let me say we are huge seafood fans. We love all seafood, raw, cooked, fried but prefer it steamed. We first had guacamole and chips to hold us over cause we were starving. The fresh guacamole was delicious! Then we order a seafood combo, go big or go home! so we went with the “The Mac Daddy!!!!” It had oysters, clams, shrimp, Snow Crab Legs and Lobster…. hey! we were also celebrating my husband’s birthday remember! haha 😉 I have to say this was the BEST snow crab legs I’ve ever had in my life!!!! OMG! I’m so sorry for the people seating around me if they could hear me raving about it while liking my fingers!!!!
Front Porch Cafe – Looks like we went to the Nags Head location. The ladies there were so patient while we decided what to order. I ordered the Chocolate Bianco Latte and it was yummy! If you follow me on instagram this is where I got my frosty lips lol
Slice Pizzeria– We eat so much pizza in this house that we sure weren’t thinking on going for pizza while on the Outer Banks BUT on our way out we just wanted something quick and inexpensive (thanks to all the OBX shirts I bought right before stopping to eat! haha) The pizza was really good!!! We really liked it there and and with a nice atmosphere. Perfect for a quick stop and keeping it on a budget.
We tried a few other places to eat and ice cream but will keep looking for other options on those 🙂
Places we visited that loved:
Paradise Fun Park – This was ohhh so much fun!!!! It can get pricey but it was all well worth it! My boys were in heaven here and I definitely was too watching their smiles. It was fun for everyone.
Jokey’s Ridge State Park – It is the tallest natural sand dune system in the Eastern United States. This place was definitely one of my absolute favorites! Wow, put together GORGEOUS, natural beauty AND family fun time and you just get a winner! We went here twice with kite and all! Drop off your flip flops at the “door” and just feel the sand on your toes, feel the evening sunset, do some exercise or just sit down and watch 🙂
Rodanthe House – This one was for me! 😉 Seeing this house from the Nights in Rodanthe movie in person was so amazing!!! The drive here was so nice too.
Life is Good – I went to do some shopping at the Duck location. I fell in love with a shirt but they didn’t have the size. This beautiful employee went above and beyond without me even asking to make sure I had my shirt. Nelly, THANK YOU, you didn’t just made possible for me to get my shirt, you made me realize that life IS indeed good with people like you in it. Such a gesture you don’t find very often. Everyone at all the Life is good locations I visited while in the Outer Banks were just so amazing <3
Like I said, this was some relaxing mini vacations without packing much at all in our schedules. We just went with the flow and it was the best way to do it and enjoy it.
I hope it helps some! and I hope you enjoyed our OBX adventures. See you again soon Outer Banks! <3
Hugs!!
